Gardaí arrest man after search for yellow Renault Traffic van concludes in Mayo

The van had last been seen in Dublin City centre.

LAST UPDATE | 12 Mar

A MAN HAS been arrested by gardaí after a search for a yellow Renault Traffic van concluded in Mayo.

Earlier today, Gardaí issued an alert to the public asking them to call 999 if they saw the van, which was last seen in Dublin City centre this morning.

This was after the same vehicle left a scene where gardaí in Arklow, Co Wicklow had responded to a public order incident. Gardaí investigating the event were concerned for the welfare of a woman in her 30s inside the vehicle.

The van was located in Co Mayo just one hour after the garda alert, when a member of the public had spotted the van and called gardaí.

The woman, who had allegedly been falsely imprisoned inside the van, was found and is safe and well. She is currently receiving support from members of An Garda Síochána.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. One male suspect, aged in his 40s, is in custody a Garda Station in the Northwest of the country.

He was arrested for alleged offences, under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

A garda spokesperson thanked the public for their assistance.
